Brazilian Senator and presidential hopeful Flavio Bolsonaro met with U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington on Wednesday, following an Oval Office visit with President Donald Trump the day before.
The meetings occur amid a political crisis triggered after he admitted to asking a jailed banker for funds to produce a film about his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro. He denies any wrongdoing.
Bolsonaro has lost ground in polls since the scandal broke, though he remains statistically tied with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in second-round runoff scenarios for the October election.
Discussions covered fighting organized crime, rare earths, and freedom of expression, according to the senator.
The health of his father, serving a 27-year sentence under house arrest for plotting a coup, was also addressed, including during the meeting with Trump.
