The security guard slain at the Islamic Center of San Diego was hailed as a hero on Tuesday. He sacrificed his life to keep 140 school children inside the mosque safe by engaging two gunmen in a shootout.
Police Chief Scott Wahl identified the guard as Amin Abdullah. He opened fire on the suspects, delaying their attack and preventing further bloodshed.
The teenage suspects fled and were later found dead from self-inflicted wounds. The attack is being investigated as a hate crime.
