Yasser Abbas, the millionaire businessman son of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, has won a seat on the Fatah Central Committee.

A party official announced the result on Sunday, following the first general conference in nearly a decade.

Mahmoud Abbas, 90, will remain chairman.

Yasser's entry into politics has fueled speculation that he may be groomed to succeed his father as head of Fatah.

Critics argue Yasser lacks the ability to unify Palestinians or lead them toward statehood.
