U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau instructed senior officials to facilitate a visa for fugitive former Polish Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro, allowing him to flee to the United States from Hungary, three sources said.
Poland seeks to prosecute Ziobro over 26 charges related to alleged misuse of a crime victims fund. He denies wrongdoing, claiming political persecution.
Ziobro has since started working as a TV commentator for Polish broadcaster TV Republika from the U.S.
