Taiwan's foreign minister said a call between U.S. and Taiwanese leaders would be positive but it is up to President Trump to take the initiative.

Minister Lin Chia-lung said no planning talks have taken place. Such a call would be unprecedented since 1979.

Trump confirmed last week he would speak with Taiwan President Lai Ching-te.
