In the Czech Republic, an unidentified person entered the Basilica of St. Lawrence and St. Zdislava and stole an approximately 800-year-old skull of the saint.
According to Oxu.Az, this was reported by The Independent.
The incident occurred in the town of Jablonec nad Nisou, about 110 kilometers north of Prague, during the afternoon when the church was open to visitors. Security camera footage shows a man in black taking the skull of St. Zdislava from a glass case, holding it to his chest, and fleeing between the pews. The historic relic was kept behind special glass.
St. Zdislava of Lemberk (1220-1252) is revered for her charity to the poor and generosity. She was officially canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1995.
Prague Archbishop Stanislav Přibyl called the incident "terrible news": "The skull was visited by pilgrims. I cannot believe that someone could steal such a relic from the church in broad daylight."
Czech police are continuing the search for the perpetrator.
