President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received a delegation led by Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on June 24.
President Ilham Aliyev emphasized the recent sufferings of the brotherly Iranian people and offered condolences for those killed in the war.
Noting that Azerbaijan stood by Iran during the war, President Ilham Aliyev cited his phone conversations with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other contacts as examples of solidarity.
The head of state stressed that the cessation of the war was met with joy in Azerbaijan and reminded that an official statement was issued immediately.
"I wish there were no wars in the region," President Ilham Aliyev said, noting that both Azerbaijan and Iran have suffered from wars in the past.
Recalling Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf's previous visit with satisfaction, the President touched upon the importance of his participation in the 20th Session of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed hope that this event would contribute to Islamic solidarity, noting that next year Azerbaijan will host the OIC Summit and preparations have already begun.
The President emphasized that Ghalibaf's visit would provide a good opportunity to discuss issues on the bilateral agenda.
The head of state also touched upon the successful development of Azerbaijan-Iran relations.
The guest expressed satisfaction with the meeting and conveyed greetings from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to President Ilham Aliyev.
President Ilham Aliyev thanked for the greetings and asked to convey his greetings to Masoud Pezeshkian.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf expressed gratitude for the support shown by President Ilham Aliyev, the Azerbaijani state and people during Iran's difficult days.
The guest also thanked for visiting the Iranian embassy to offer condolences and for the congratulatory letter on the election of Ayatollah Khamenei as the Supreme Leader.
Calling war a great tragedy, the guest emphasized that Azerbaijan remained committed to good neighborly relations and provided humanitarian aid, noting that this will remain in the memory of the Iranian people.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said that Azerbaijan and Iran have always stood by each other in difficult times, calling it an example of unity. He noted that the war showed the importance of Iran's contacts with Muslim countries.
The guest stated that Iran recognized its friends and enemies during the war, and Azerbaijan stood by Iran as a friend.
During the conversation, confidence was expressed in the further dynamic development of Azerbaijan-Iran relations. It was noted with satisfaction that the construction of the Aghband-Kalaley bridge has been completed, and the Araz corridor passing through Iranian territory will serve to increase transport opportunities in the region.
The meeting discussed the prospects of bilateral relations, including interparliamentary cooperation, and touched upon the activities of the intergovernmental commission.
