Cardiologist Sarah Alexander recommends adding avocado to your breakfast.
She spoke about the benefits of avocado for the heart in an interview with the Daily Mirror.
Avocado lowers cholesterol levels and normalizes blood pressure. Studies show people who eat at least two avocados per week have lower rates of heart disease and ischemic heart disease.
According to the doctor, the beneficial properties of avocado are due to plant sterols. These substances lower cholesterol and help prevent cardiovascular diseases. The fruit also contains antioxidants, vitamin E, and other nutrients that support vascular health.
Half an avocado provides about a quarter of the recommended daily fiber intake. It also contains more potassium than a banana, which helps counteract the negative effects of excess salt on blood pressure.
