Takaya Soga, head of Japan's NYK Line, told the Financial Times that even if a ceasefire is reached between Iran and the US, full restoration of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz will take months.
The main issue is clearing up to 80 mines from the waterway. Currently, civilian ships can only safely navigate two narrow corridors.
Soga noted that current routes are extremely limited, and initial shipping volumes will be less than half of normal.
