Rescuers have discovered the bodies of four Italian nationals who died while exploring underwater caves in the Maldives.
The Italian Foreign Ministry confirmed the news, as reported by Oxu.Az.
According to Corriere della Sera, the bodies were found at a depth of about 60 meters in an area known as "Shark Cave."
The deceased include a professor from the University of Genoa, his 22-year-old daughter, and two young researchers.
The body of a fifth victim, a diving instructor, had been recovered earlier.
One local diver also died during the search operation.
On May 15, the deaths of five Italian citizens were reported. The cause of the tragedy remains unknown.
The Rome Prosecutor's Office has launched an official investigation into the deaths of the Italian divers. Potential causes include adverse weather conditions in the research area, poor-quality gas mixture, and the wrong type of gas in the tanks.
Local authorities claim that the divers conducted research at depths of 50-60 meters, exceeding the permitted limit of 30 meters. All victims were recognized as experienced divers.
