Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto has called for a new pan-European defense system involving the United Kingdom, Norway, Turkey, and Ukraine.
According to Oxu.Az, he discussed this in an interview with The New York Times.
His proposal suggests that the EU's 27 member states should form an alliance with 13 other non-EU European countries.
The publication believes that implementing this idea would significantly change Europe's collective defense structure, creating a new EU-led system alongside the current US-led NATO.
This approach underscores how seriously European leaders view US President Donald Trump's moves to reduce the US military presence in Europe.
Crosetto argues that a credible European defense policy can no longer be limited to EU members and requires full participation from all partners sharing vital interests and responsibilities.
