Billionaire Ilya Traber detained in St. Petersburg on charges of orchestrating the 2020 murder of deputy Alexander Petrov.

Russian billionaire Ilya Traber has been detained by law enforcement in St. Petersburg.

According to Fontanka, the operation was carried out by the Central Office of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB). Searches were conducted at Traber's country house in the Leningrad region, his office at 12 Starorusskaya Street, and several other properties.

The SHOT channel reports that Traber is accused of orchestrating the 2020 contract killing of deputy Alexander Petrov near Vyborg.

Searches are ongoing at the 75-year-old businessman's addresses. Traber will soon be taken to Moscow for further investigation.

Deputy Alexander Petrov, 61, was killed on October 24, 2020, at a cottage in the village of Velikoye near Vyborg. The killer fired a 7.62mm sniper rifle from across the river.
