Newly declassified documents from the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) discuss the possibility of an alien base on the lunar surface.
According to Oxu.Az, the news was reported by the Daily Mirror.
The documents include 72 new files released by the U.S. government on June 12, featuring an audio recording of a secret NASA meeting after the Apollo 16 mission in 1972. During that flight, American astronauts landed on the Moon for the fifth time and conducted numerous scientific experiments.
In the meeting, NASA staff discussed laser measurements, lunar gravity, and other scientific topics. They first mentioned a "giant hole" near the Van de Graaff crater on the far side of the Moon. One participant then suggested: "This could be an alien base or a similar object. In any case, the next image shows the side of the Moon visible from Earth."
The article notes that after this unexpected suggestion, researchers continued joking about the "giant hole" on the far side.
