US President Donald Trump reached a common ground with European leaders at the G7 summit on Iran, promising to support Ukraine in return.
According to Politico, citing European diplomats, Trump pressured his counterparts to back a deal with Iran. He also requested assistance in clearing mines from the Strait of Hormuz before Vice President JD Vance's trip to Geneva.
In public, Trump downplayed the need for European support, but in closed meetings, he asked for both verbal and financial help. A source said: "In exchange, steps must be taken for Ukraine. Everyone thinks he will help Ukraine. He discussed this with the leaders."
G7 leaders agreed to support only under specific conditions. French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized that any mine-clearing operations involving ships must be conducted with joint consent from the US, Iran, and Oman.
