Archaeologists in Turkey have uncovered a rare beardless depiction of Jesus Christ dating back to the 3rd century. According to the Daily Star, the fresco was found beneath a tomb in the ancient city of Nicaea, modern-day Iznik.
Painted in Roman style, the fresco is remarkably well-preserved. The beardless image of Jesus is unusual compared to traditional portrayals.
Before the cross became the main symbol of Christianity, the "Good Shepherd" was the primary icon. Early Christian frescoes depict Jesus as a young shepherd carrying a lamb on his shoulders, symbolizing the salvation of souls.
