US intelligence believes Iran can close the Strait of Hormuz at will, giving Tehran a powerful lever to influence the global economy.
According to CNN, citing sources, a deal to keep the strait open is planned for June 19, but Iran has demonstrated its ability to block the strategic waterway during recent conflicts.
One source said: 'We have effectively given Iran control of the strait. That's a more powerful pressure tool than any nuclear weapon.' The Strait of Hormuz is a critical artery for global energy supplies.
