A man in Thailand stole a winning lottery ticket worth a large sum from his neighbor, fearing exposure, and then burned it.
According to Oxu.Az citing "Mothership," the incident occurred in Sukhothai province.
54-year-old Sayan bought three lottery tickets and went to her neighbor Veyu to check them. One of the tickets turned out to be worth 6 million baht (approximately 313,800 manat).
Veyu offered to keep the winning tickets at his house overnight so she wouldn't walk around the street with them. However, when Sayan returned the next day, her neighbor told her she was mistaken, none of the tickets were winners, and he had thrown them away.
The woman didn't believe this explanation and checked the trash bin near Veyu's house. She found only two lottery tickets there.
Sayan then contacted the police. Veyu and his wife Date were called to give statements. The couple initially denied stealing the ticket and agreed to a search of their home.
Although Veyu claimed he returned all tickets to Sayan, on June 11, Date confessed to stealing the winning ticket. He said he took and burned the ticket after Sayan reported to the police.
Date thought his neighbor would be too timid to complain to law enforcement. He also stated that his wife was unaware of the theft.
