The crew of the Russian Navy's frigate 'Admiral Grigorovich' fired a warning shot toward a UK-registered yacht in the English Channel.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at 11:40 local time, between the Isle of Wight and the French coast.
The yacht's owner and reason for approaching remain unknown. The UK Ministry of Defence is investigating.
According to the BBC, the yacht and those onboard were unharmed. UK authorities reported the warning shot was fired from about 500 meters.
The incident happened about 20 nautical miles (37 km) from the Isle of Wight, outside British territorial waters.
