Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni revealed at the G7 summit in France that she quit smoking a month ago. The announcement was met with applause.
According to Oxu.Az citing Euronews, Meloni asked for coffee during a conversation with other leaders. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz jokingly asked if she wanted a cigarette as well. "No, I quit smoking," Meloni replied.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen exclaimed "Bravo!" in support, followed by applause from other politicians.
Recall that in October 2025, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan advised Meloni to quit smoking during a Gaza summit in Egypt. French President Emmanuel Macron jokingly said it was "impossible" for Meloni to quit.
