The Special Criminal Court of the Central African Republic has launched a trial in absentia against former president Francois Bozize.

Charges include murders, torture, and rapes committed between February 2009 and March 2013 in Bossembele.

Bozize, 79, lives in exile in Guinea-Bissau and is represented by a lawyer. An international arrest warrant was issued in February 2024.

He came to power in a 2003 coup and was ousted in 2013 by the Seleka rebel coalition.
