Rapper Mystikal (Michael Lawrence Tyler), a Grammy nominee in the early 2000s, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for assaulting a woman at his Louisiana home in 2022.
In March, he pleaded guilty to third-degree rape. Under a plea deal, the first-degree charge was dropped, avoiding a possible life sentence.
Before sentencing, Mystikal asked the judge to withdraw his guilty plea, claiming he did not fully understand the consequences, but the request was denied. The victim urged the judge to impose the maximum sentence.
