On June 29, a court sentenced Hollywood screenwriter and director Carl Rinsch to 2.5 years in prison for defrauding Netflix of $11 million under the guise of an unfinished sci-fi series.
Supporters, including actor Keanu Reeves, asked for leniency, but the judge upheld the sentence.
Rinsch transferred the funds for the "White Horse" project to his personal account. He spent the money on luxury cars, expensive watches, clothing, and even $638,000 on two mattresses.
His defense cited psychological issues and medication, but prosecutors called it "sheer greed."
