South Korea's Defense Minister An Gyu Bak announced plans to ease restrictions for residents living near the North Korean border.
According to Oxu.Az citing Yonhap, the military is adjusting to reduced troop numbers and aims to meet future security needs by revising the Civilian Control Line (CCL).
Seoul intends to shrink areas where civilian access is banned. The CCL, located 10 km south of the Military Demarcation Line (MDL), will shift about 6 km north, opening an additional 270 km² for free movement.
Additionally, restrictions on 450 km² in the Restricted Protection Zone will be lifted. Plans also include dismantling old military structures in 23 villages and settlements in Gangwon Province.
