A guide on Mount Everest has been found alive after spending six days without water, food, or oxygen. The Himalayan Times reports.
On May 29, 52-year-old Dava Sherpa was accompanying a Polish climber during descent. The climber suffered frostbite, aborting the summit attempt. For unknown reasons, the guide was left alone near the "Yellow Band" rocky area. The climbers reached camp, but Sherpa did not.
His employer, Himalayan Traverse, did not send rescue teams. On June 3, another company conducted a helicopter search, but found nothing.
Sherpa began descending alone. On June 4, a cleaning crew on Everest discovered him crawling on the ground and immediately helped.
A helicopter transported the exhausted and frostbitten man to a hospital in Kathmandu. He could barely speak. He is estimated to have covered about 3 kilometers alone.
