The Central African Republic has reported an outbreak of cholera. Health Minister Pierre Somse announced this during a national television address.
As of June 27, 197 cholera cases have been detected in the country, with 24 deaths.
The epicenter of the outbreak is in the southwestern districts of Bimbo and Mbaiki. The first case was recorded on June 14.
According to the World Health Organization, cholera has now spread to 14 African countries. The most widespread outbreak is in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control estimates 21,000 cases and 726 deaths since the beginning of the year.
