Food prices in the United States have risen at the fastest rate in four years.
According to The Washington Post, the price increase is mainly due to rising energy costs, new tariffs, and difficulties in the agricultural sector.
Fresh fruits, vegetables, and beef have seen notable increases. In April, tomatoes were 15% more expensive than in March, and nearly 40% more expensive year-over-year. Beef prices in April 2026 were 15% higher than the previous year.
Overall food prices have risen more than 18% since January 2022. According to the UN, US and Israeli military operations against Iran have pushed global food prices to their highest level in over three years.
