Due to anomalous heat, Hungary is experiencing a drinking water shortage. Prime Minister Peter Madyar announced the critical situation on Facebook.
Water supply systems are operating at full capacity. Weekend consumption was 1.5-2 times higher than normal. Madyar warned that if usage isn't reduced, some settlements will face severe water scarcity.
Restrictions have been imposed in 120 settlements covered by the Danube Regional Water Supply Service. Some water reservoirs are completely empty, so water is being delivered by tankers.
The PM urged the public to use water only when necessary. Hospitals, nursing homes, critical infrastructure, and fire services must be prioritized.
