Iran has announced that it does not intend to charge vessels merely for passing through the Strait of Hormuz. However, "operational costs" will cover technical services related to maritime security, environmental protection, and navigation management.
According to Oxu.Az citing the Tehran Times, this was stated by Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baqai.
"The services provided during this process, including navigation assistance and environmental protection measures, require compensation for costs. However, this should not be interpreted as the imposition of a transit fee," he said.
The diplomat emphasized that Iran and Oman, as two coastal states, bear primary responsibility for security in the Strait of Hormuz, and denied reports of possible European involvement in managing the strait.
Recall that on May 18, Iran announced the establishment of a state agency to manage the Strait of Hormuz.
