The French Armed Forces are working on a project to create a military unit of AI-controlled robots.
Under the "Pendragon" initiative, one infantry unit will be replaced by robots rather than soldiers.
On the battlefield, 120-130 soldiers will be replaced by remote-controlled robots and drones.
About 15 soldiers on the rear will coordinate their actions.
Lieutenant Colonel Christophe said: "The main goal is to conduct operations without risking human lives."
Tests are being conducted at a training ground in Morbihan. Dozens of ground robots weighing 2-3 tons and about 60 drones will perform infantry functions.
The robots will be equipped with machine guns or heat-guided missiles and will transport ammunition.
All systems will be controlled by the "C2 Pendragon" AI platform. France opposes fully autonomous lethal weapons but allows semi-autonomous systems.
The project is expected to be presented in 2027, though full readiness may take longer.
