The French Armed Forces are developing a military unit of AI-controlled robots.
According to Le Point, the "Pendragon" initiative plans to replace one infantry unit with robots.
On the battlefield, 120-130 soldiers will be replaced by remotely controlled robots and drones, coordinated by about 15 soldiers from the rear.
Lt. Col. Christophe said: "The goal is to conduct operations without risking human life."
Tests are underway in Morbihan. Dozens of 2-3 ton ground robots and 60 drones will perform infantry functions.
The machines will be equipped with machine guns or heat-guided missiles and will also transport ammunition.
All systems will be controlled by the AI platform "C2 Pendragon." France does not support fully autonomous lethal weapons but allows partially autonomous systems.
The project is expected to be unveiled in 2027, though full readiness will take longer.
