Bond.az reports that the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is debating whether to require taxpayers to disclose their citizenship status on next year's tax forms. This move is part of the Trump administration's immigration enforcement push.
According to sources, the IRS is considering two versions of Form 1040. The first includes minor updates to tax law changes. The second includes those updates plus a checkbox labeled: 'Check this box if you are a non-U.S. citizen or have dual citizenship.'
Immigrants, including undocumented ones, are required to file taxes using the same forms. Paying taxes has long been seen as a key factor for undocumented immigrants to obtain legal status.
