The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has launched a new AI-led initiative to detect fraud and waste in federally funded health programs.
The program, named AERO (Audit Enforcement and Risk Oversight), will review at least five years of audit records across all 50 states.
This follows the Trump administration's creation of a national anti-fraud task force led by Vice President JD Vance.
HHS stated that hundreds of grantees have not submitted required audits, some overdue by more than two years.
The agency will work with states and grantees to resolve findings and may withhold payments or cut off grants if issues persist.
