On May 21, the 8th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan was held in Baku. The meeting was co-chaired by Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov and Tajik Deputy Prime Minister Usmonali Usmonzoda.
Samir Sharifov noted that the high-level political dialogue between President Ilham Aliyev and President Emomali Rahmon gives a significant impetus to bilateral relations. In particular, the Strategic Partnership Declaration signed in 2024 elevated relations to a qualitatively new level.
In 2025, trade turnover increased by 84% and transit shipments by 50%. The potential for expanding economic cooperation was emphasized.
The meeting discussed cooperation prospects in industry, investment, agriculture, energy, transport, tourism, education, and humanitarian fields. Tajik companies were invited to benefit from Azerbaijan's favorable business environment.
At the end, a Memorandum of Understanding between AZPROMO and the Tajikistan Chamber of Commerce, an Agreement on mutual education quotas, and the Protocol of the 8th meeting were signed. A business forum is scheduled for May 22.
