Azerbaijan has banned pressure on whistleblowers and their relatives who report corruption.
President Ilham Aliyev today signed amendments to the Law on Combating Corruption. The amendments prohibit the participation of the anti-corruption unit during certification of whistleblowers.
If disciplinary measures are taken against whistleblowers in retaliation, the burden of proof falls on the employer. Also, public officials must report illegal benefits directly to the specialized unit instead of their immediate supervisor.
