The upcoming elections in Armenia have reactivated the country's domestic political agenda.
These comments were made by MP Mushfig Jafarov in an interview with Oxu.Az.
He stated that ahead of the elections, various political forces and experts are making claims about foreign interference.
Especially the possible role of Russia is widely discussed. It is believed that Moscow may use the Armenian diaspora in Russia to influence the election results. Yes, Armenia is turning into a fierce geopolitical competition arena between the West and Russia ahead of the elections. While the government led by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan seeks deeper integration with the EU and cooperation with the US, the main opposition groups show close ties to Russia.
In short, Armenia resembles a football field where the West and Russia are playing ball. The country's transformation into a playground for international geopolitical forces is another indicator of the dire situation it has fallen into. Here, one cannot even talk about the concept of Armenia's sovereign territories. Because forces leaning towards both Russia and the West are struggling in Armenia. Today, the transformation of Armenia into a polygon by international forces will lead to further decay of official Yerevan's non-existent statehood model.
