One of the gravest consequences of France's long-standing colonial policy is the chlordecone scandal. Steps are now being taken to address these severe impacts in French overseas territories.
Emmanuel Macron publicly admitted the state's responsibility. In 2022, a Paris court confirmed this. However, no one has been held legally accountable for poisoning thousands.
Executive Director of the Baku Initiative Group told Baku TV that since 2024, the issue has been raised on international platforms: “Brochures were published, conferences were held before COP29. As a result, the French parliament adopted a new law.”
In 2025, a French court ordered compensation for a limited number of victims. But the international community considers this step insufficient.
