Mehriban Valiyeva, a member of the Milli Majlis, told Oxu.Az that the legislative initiative to protect children from the harmful effects of social networks is an important and strategic step in line with modern challenges.
The deputy noted that the global trend of imposing age restrictions on children's social media use is growing. The EU, USA, Australia, and other countries have implemented various age limits to protect children's data and ensure cybersecurity.
Valiyeva emphasized that restricting registration for children under 16 on social networks will encourage them to focus on education, reading, sports, and creativity. This will positively impact their mental health, emotional stability, and intellectual development.
She added that the legal changes will strengthen parental responsibility and oversight. The new regulation will allow parents to monitor their children's digital activities and protect them from harmful content.
Finally, the MP stated that the adopted changes will contribute to a safer digital environment in Azerbaijan, protecting children's rights and fostering a healthy generation.
