A draft law discussed in Azerbaijani parliament proposes banning children under 16 from creating accounts on age-restricted social media platforms.
New requirements for providers and heavy fines for violations are also included.
MP Ceyhun Mammadov noted that social media's impact on youth is a global issue and many countries have already taken regulatory steps.
Psychologist Gulnar Orucova highlighted parental ignorance: "Parents give phones to calm children, but that leads to obesity and other problems."
She believes that after the ban, parents will create accounts in their own names for their children.
