The new episode of Baku TV's 'Retro Baku' program is dedicated to the People's Artist of Azerbaijan, tar player Ramiz Guliyev.
Kamancha player, Honored Artist Mirnazim Asadullayev spoke about the artist's role in world music: 'He introduced the Azerbaijani tar to the world in such a way that there is no second like him to this day.'
Ramiz Guliyev became a laureate of the Estrada Artists Competition held in Moscow in 1974.
His son, Honored Artist Ayub Guliyev, recalls that prestigious competition: 'In that competition, Alla Pugacheva settled for third place, but Ramiz Guliyev won. He is the artist who elevated Azerbaijan to the top on such huge platforms.'
Ayub Guliyev also shared an interesting coincidence he encountered in Poland regarding his father: 'While studying in St. Petersburg, I received an invitation from a major Polish symphony orchestra for a joint concert. They said that the person with whom I would share the stage and perform together had the same surname as me. I was thinking of pianists or violinists, but it never occurred to me that the person would be my father. When I asked for his name, they said 'Ramiz Guliyev.' The organizers didn't know he was my father, and he didn't know I was invited. We coincidentally came together at that concert in Poland.'
