Ticket prices for the Baku-Tbilisi-Baku passenger train, which resumed operations on May 26, may change. This was stated by Bakhtiyar Haciyev, head of the Public Relations Department of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, in an interview with Oxu.Az.
He clarified that ticket prices are adjusted according to the Swiss franc. The department head noted that this approach is applied to international rail transport: "Prices for all international routes are calculated based on the exchange rate of the Swiss franc against the local currency. This means that if the Swiss franc rate changes against the local currency, it will affect ticket prices. Of course, we are not talking about a major impact. Generally, service, quality, and safety are also considered when determining ticket prices."
Haciyev said it is incorrect to compare current ticket prices for the Baku-Tbilisi-Baku passenger train with those of 2019: "It is not correct to compare the transportation back then with the current one, which uses wagons manufactured by Stadler. Because the classes of transportation that existed then do not exist now. Roughly, the former coupe class can be equated to the current comfort class, and the SV class to the luxury class. But the comfort class here is much better than the previous coupe class. There has never been such a class on Azerbaijani railways before. For the first time, comfort, comfort-plus, and luxury class wagons have a separate sanitary unit and shower cabin in each compartment. This has never been seen on any train before."
