During summer beach vacations, improperly selected foods can lead to food poisoning.
According to Oxu.Az, Russian dietitian Yelena Solomatina warned about this in an interview with life.ru.
She says most foods left under the scorching sun quickly lose freshness and become hazardous to health. High temperatures and direct sunlight create ideal conditions for bacterial growth.
Because the temperature at the beach is high and people stay under the sun for long periods, it's difficult to keep food safe. The doctor recommends avoiding the following products:
- Salads with fish, seafood, and dressing;
- Cooked sausages, hot dogs;
- Cottage cheese, yogurt, and soft cheeses;
- Cut fruits and vegetables (cut products quickly release juice, fostering microorganism growth).
Cream-based confections require special caution. Even factory-made desserts with cream spoil quickly in hot weather. Homemade sweets and dairy-based fillings can become a source of danger in a very short time.
The dietitian also advises against bringing alcoholic beverages, sweet sodas, coffee, and strong tea to the beach:
- Alcohol and caffeine cause dehydration.
- Sweet drinks only quench thirst briefly. The sharp rise in blood glucose followed by a sudden drop can cause malaise.
Instead, for beach snacks, nuts, dried fruits, crackers, rusks, as well as whole vegetables and fruits with thick skins (cucumbers, apples, etc.) are safer choices.
Solomatina noted another important point: "The more natural a product is and the fewer preservatives it contains, the faster it can spoil in hot weather. It's better not to bring suspicious foods to the beach and not to eat them there."
