Argentina forward Lionel Messi has set a new record for the number of different national teams he has scored against in World Cup history.
According to Stats Foot, Messi achieved this feat by scoring against Jordan in the third round of the 2026 World Cup group stage, which ended with a 3-1 victory for Argentina.
Thus, Messi has now scored against 13 different national teams: Serbia and Montenegro (as a single team in 2006), Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iran, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Australia, Netherlands, Croatia, France, Algeria, Austria, and Jordan.
In second place are former Germany players Miroslav Klose and Jürgen Klinsmann, and Brazilian legend Ronaldo, each with 10 different teams.
Messi also became the first player to score in seven consecutive World Cup matches.
