Additionally, the 38-year-old forward increased his personal tally to 19 goals in World Cups, setting a new personal best.
Messi now leads the list of the most prolific scorers in World Cup history, surpassing his closest rivals Miroslav Klose and Kylian Mbappe, who have 16 goals each.
