Abnormal heat in Europe is causing Swiss glaciers to melt at an alarming rate. Snow from last winter is expected to disappear by June 29.
According to The Guardian, ice and snow in the Alps are melting at unprecedented speeds.
Matthias Huss, head of Glamos, warns: “The more days with extreme temperatures, the greater the damage to glaciers.”
Major rivers like the Rhine and Rhone rely on Alpine meltwater. By 2026, snow volume is predicted to be 25% lower than in 2010-2020.
