General Motors (GM) will start assembling the Chevrolet Groove and Aveo in Mexico for local sale. The company will continue to source parts from China.
GM had been exporting these vehicles from China, where its sales have declined. The project is part of GM's previously announced $1 billion investment in Mexico. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum attended the event.
• GM will begin local assembly at its Ramos Arizpe plant, with sales starting in 2027 and a target of 80,000 vehicles per year by 2030.
• The Aveo is one of Mexico's best-selling models and GM's top-selling car in the country.
• GM sold over 60,000 Aveos in Mexico in 2025 and is on pace for a record this year.
• GM produces electric vehicles at the Ramos Arizpe plant. Earlier this year, it laid off 1,900 workers from the plant due to weak U.S. demand.
• Last year, GM announced it would relocate production of the gas-powered Chevrolet Blazer from the Ramos plant to a U.S. facility.
