Pakistan has deployed 8,000 troops, a squadron of fighter jets, and an air defense system to Saudi Arabia under a mutual defense pact, ramping up military cooperation during the Iran war.
The deployment, confirmed by five sources, includes JF-17 fighters, drones, and a Chinese HQ-9 air defense system. It is a combat-capable force intended to support Saudi Arabia if attacked.
Pakistan already had thousands of troops stationed in the kingdom. The new agreement allows for up to 80,000 Pakistani troops to be deployed to help secure Saudi borders.
The equipment is operated by Pakistani personnel and financed by Saudi Arabia. The troops will primarily serve in advisory and training roles.
