Taiwan Defence Minister Wellington Koo said Tuesday he was "cautiously optimistic" about arms sales from the U.S.
President Donald Trump is still considering whether to proceed with new sales to the island claimed by China.
Trump's meeting with Xi Jinping raised concerns in Taipei about U.S. commitment to Taiwan's defense.
The U.S. is legally bound to provide Taiwan with weapons. In December, an $11 billion arms package was approved.
Koo said talks with the U.S. continue and "at present, we remain cautiously optimistic."
