An alternative to dog meat has been found in South Korea amid the ban on its production and sale.
According to Oxu.Az, a local resident who consumes the food told RIA Novosti.
The agency's interlocutor said that goat meat tastes very similar to dog meat. To eliminate the characteristic smell, spices should be used during cooking, he noted.
The interviewee added that the country is already preparing for the "post-dog meat" era. Notably, there has been a significant increase in the number of farms raising black goats in South Korea.
On January 9, the South Korean parliament passed a law banning the breeding and slaughtering of dogs for food. The bill also provides subsidies for those involved in dog meat production to change their jobs.
The ban will take effect in 2027. Violators face up to three years in prison or a fine of up to 30 million won ($22,700).
According to the South Korean government's statistics, there are approximately 1,150 dog farms, 34 meat processing plants, 219 distributors, and about 1,600 restaurants selling dog meat dishes. It is worth noting that dog meat was once considered an integral part of Korean national cuisine.
