A US Navy destroyer, USS Higgins, suffered a complete power outage in late April due to an electrical system failure. This incident marks yet another technical problem plaguing American naval vessels in recent months.
According to Commander Matthew Comer, spokesperson for the 7th Fleet, the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer reported a technical issue in its electrical distribution system on April 28 while conducting planned operations in the Indo-Pacific region. The power failure left the ship entirely without electricity and immobilized.
The Navy confirmed that power has since been restored and the destroyer is back to normal operations. However, this event adds to a growing list of technical malfunctions on US warships.
Earlier, CBS News had reported a fire aboard the same destroyer, raising concerns about the maintenance and readiness of naval assets.
The US Navy continues technical malfunctions investigations to prevent such incidents, but recent events highlight the need for improved ship maintenance protocols.
