Colombian President Gustavo Petro has officially rejected the preliminary vote count in the presidential election, stating he will wait for the completion of protocol processing by electoral commissions.
In a post on his X account, Petro said: "As President, I do not recognize the preliminary results from Bautista brothers' private company. The vote counting algorithms were changed three times in the last week, and 800,000 identification numbers of people not on the official voter list were added."
He argued that this vote count cannot be considered legally binding. "According to the law, the legally binding results that I will accept and recognize are those announced by counting commissions led by judges."
The election was held on May 31. Preliminary results show far-right politician Abelardo de la Espriella with 43.74% and leftist Ivan Sepeda with 40.90%, advancing to a runoff on June 21.
